I am a coal miner's daughter who grew up in the hills of western Kentucky.  Stories and a love for the written word have always been a part of my life.  I remember listening to my father tell stories about his nights underground in the coal mines.  Before I could read, daddy would read to me from his favorite authors--Kipling, Tolstoy, Shakespeare.  Those moments with my father are indelibly woven into my life and into the way I approach both writing and performance.

I am a published poet and playwright, a performing artist and a storyteller.  I have a one person show, "The Kitchen Table" which has appeared in university venues across the country.  I also am an experienced storyteller who adapts my stories to the venue and age range of the audience.  I have a PhD in Speech Communication with an emphasis in Performance Studies, and have spent more than 20 years as a Professor of Speech Communication and Theatre.  I would be happy to design a workshop on speaking, performing or storytelling for your organization, either in conjunction with a performance engagement or as a separate event.  Please contact me for information about programs you are interested in hosting.
